I couldn't believe the day that my dad called the house to tell me he was lost. Immediately I panicked and began to worry. My first thought was "oh my God he's got Alzheimer's or something worse!" My goodness he used to be a taxi drive, this was not happening. So, I began asking him a series of rapid, and decisive questions. Is there any restaurants near you, or are there any people near by to help you, street signs near you at all, can you tell me if you cut the car off? Oh my! Be honest, what were you thinking when your old man said he was not sure where his turn was to get to the range, that he was getting old? I only ask because your face showed such surprise as well as some relief when he said "Rabbit, it's because there are some new streets on this side of town. Well, yeah I did, but I was relieved to know he was still capable of being in his right mind.
When i got time, I searched different places in search of a GPS for my dad. It must have been a simple process, because after he pulled over and got out of his car, he looked up our numbers in his black book to use his preprogrammed mobile phone. I'm sure if it weren't for me he'd still be carrying around that prehistoric 20 lb bag phone.
Finally, after and long and arduous search, I discovered the Navigon 2100T portable GPS. In a sense what makes the portable feature really awesome is that it can be put in either the car or the truck. Too small like the Magellan Roadmate,or it's also not big and bulky like the Cobra GPSM 2500. He wears bifocals.
The other neat feature I liked was the 3 D images that Navigon 2100T portable GPS offers. I didn't find this on any of the other models I looked at. The roads look enough like they do in real life that my father finds it much easier to navigate.
It also comes with "test to speech" technology. Wow what a great little feature. Some GPS systems will tell you to turn long before you actually need to. This nifty device tells you exactly which way to turn and on which street. My dad knows streets. Estimating about fifteen miles is a bit much. He's too proud to touch the little button that measures your distance on the car. Once you have made your turn onto the wrong road, it takes about five minutes until you realize you wanted the next left. It won't work with the Navigon 2100T portable GPS system.
It also has a replaceable SD card that can be updated for new traffic control. That way it you are having difficulties it can provide you with different ways to get to your location.
And it was quite affordable, too. Eventually, I gave in and went to amazon and bought 2 for a little more than $300. Of course, I wanted one also. My dad was way better with Navigon 2100T portable GTS than me, in less time than a month he had it figured out.
